Manual Lymphatic Drainage

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, unlike other massage types, does not focus on the muscles. Instead it is specifically designed to stimulate the bodies lymphatic system. It is useful for assisting in the drainage of excess fluid retention in bodily tissue, especially post-surgery.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is performed with light pressure and without oils.  It can be either be performed across the whole body, or tailored to specific areas of the body as required.

What should I expect from Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

A standard Manual Lymphatic Drainage session will last around 1 hour, though the treatment itself can be broken down into smaller segments if required. The treatment can also be extended if desired. It will be conducted with gentle “butterfly touch” techniques to only stimulate the superficial lymphatic system.

What should I wear for Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is performed directly onto the skin, so any areas that will be treated should be undressed. You will have towels available to cover you throughout the session. In addition, any tight fitting or restrictive clothing items (such as bras, belts, compression clothing etc) should also be removed.
